After a really cozy day in the forest, where I went foraging for wild garlic with a friend, I came home with a large bag full of fragrant green leaves with that unmistakable garlicky aroma. There’s something so special about wild garlic season – nature finally starts waking up again, and every year it almost feels like a little tradition to head out and forage for it ourselves. The smell of fresh wild garlic covering the forest floor is incredible, and it instantly makes you want to go home and cook something delicious with it.
One of the first things I made was these homemade wild garlic bread twists, and they turned out SO good. The bread is soft and fluffy on the inside with a crispy, golden crust on the outside. The wild garlic butter melts into the dough while baking and gives the bread so much flavor. Wild garlic has a mild, fresh garlic taste that works perfectly in homemade bread, and the result is incredibly soft, flavorful, and honestly a little addictive.
I served the bread twists alongside a creamy wild garlic soup, and it was genuinely the perfect spring dinner. Warm homemade bread with hot soup is just one of those combinations you’ll want to make again and again. These bread twists also work perfectly as a side for grilled dishes, tapas, salads, or simply as a delicious bread for the dinner table. They taste best freshly baked while the butter is still warm and the crust perfectly crisp, but they also freeze really well for later.
Thankfully, the recipe is very easy to make – even if you don’t bake bread very often. The dough is a classic yeast dough that’s simple to work with, and the twisted shape makes the loaves look extra rustic and beautiful. That makes them perfect both for guests and cozy everyday dinners.
